For the first time in it's history, NRYTL gathered together to celebrate its past with a dinner attended by former players, coaches, cheerleaders, supporters and their families. The event was held on the water at Beckwidth Pointe in New Rochelle. It was a night filled with laughter, remembrance and of course, debate. The pre-party saw guests catching up with old friends, many who have not been seen in 10, 20 and even 30 years. Master of Ceremonies Omar Small kicked the evening off with acknowledgements of invited guests, followed by salutations led by Tom McKnight. New Rochelle Mayor Norm Bransom then spoke and re-emphasized the tone of the night. The gathering of everything that New Rochelle has to offer in its people was represented that night, and that we all came together in our common support of what New Rochelle Youth Tackle League represented to our lives.
The evening followed with an applause filled remembrance slideshow of those who have led, coached, played and supported NRYTL, who are no longer with us. While stating his case for why the 1975 Colts were the best team ever, Mike Fosina then presented Charlie Brewer and Vinny Dunn 50th celebration purple jackets. Mike Herman also received a jacket for his generosity in donating Thursday nights big screen event.
Guest speakers for the evening were represented by an impressive lineup of someone from each era. Businessman Al Tarantino represented the 1960's, EMT Mark McClean, Businesman Dan Goldman and Dr. Doug Edwards,1970's, Anthony Mirabile, COO of Goldman Sachs Bank, 1980's and Heisman Trophy candidate Ray Rice, 1990's. Bill Barrett added laughter in introducing NRYTL president Joe Fosina, who inserted more humor in remembering just a few of the many funny stories in his time with NRYTL. The evening then continued with a presentation of photos gathered over the 50 year history of NRYTL set to music representing each era. The slideshow represented all of NRYTL including our cheer teams, as there were many former cheerleaders who came to the dinner. After a round of applause ended the presentation portion of the evening, dinner was served and the evening moved to gathering, toasting, remembrance and of course, debate and laughter over who were the best players and who had the best teams. What a night!
You can view the memorial presentation shown at the dinner here. (you will need hi-speed a DSL or cable internet connection) . The 50 year history presentation will be available for viewing at a later date. This event was possible thanks to the efforts over the past 18 months of the 50th committee.
